Visibility Distribution Across Purchase-Intent Queries
How the 18 high-intent prospect queries resolved on each LLM, Strong vs. Moderate vs. Weak / Absent.
How Each LLM Describes Meridian Valley

Responses to 8 brand-specific queries ("Tell me about Meridian Valley University", "Is Meridian Valley a good school", "What is Meridian Valley known for", and similar). All four LLMs correctly identify the institution, but detail depth, emphasis, and factual accuracy vary meaningfully.

ChatGPT

Describes Meridian Valley as "a regional public university in the Pacific Northwest" with strong nursing and education programs. Tuition is stated in a single blended figure that does not distinguish in-state vs. out-of-state. Generally favorable framing, moderate detail depth.

Claude

Delivers the most comprehensive brand response. Cites specific program accreditations (CCNE for nursing, AACSB for the Carver School of Business), the correct Division II athletics affiliation, and differentiates in-state from out-of-state tuition accurately. Strong on factual precision.

Gemini

Provides the most structured output, including a table of quick facts and a bulleted list of popular majors. Strong on data formatting but attributes one nursing-program ranking to Meridian Valley that actually belongs to a peer institution (see Factual Accuracy Ledger).

Perplexity

Shorter, citation-heavy responses. Misstates undergraduate enrollment and conflates Meridian Valley with a similarly named private college on two queries. Strong citations are a plus, but the accuracy lapses erode the response quality.

Detail Depth Score on Brand Queries
Relative depth of information provided across 8 brand-specific queries. Scale: Basic = 1, Moderate = 2, High = 3, Very High = 4.

Head-to-Head Framing Score
On direct comparison queries, how many of 4 LLMs position Meridian Valley as the stronger or preferred option.
vs. Western Cascade University
Western Cascade consistently takes the top slot across all four LLMs on academic prestige, research output, and out-of-state recruitment. Meridian Valley is framed as the more affordable, more accessible choice with stronger undergraduate teaching. This is the single largest visibility gap: Western Cascade is quoted as "the flagship" in 3 of 4 models.
MVU Wins: Affordability & Access Western Cascade Wins: Prestige & Research
vs. Pacific Pines State
A close peer comparison. Meridian Valley wins on nursing program framing (mentioned as "CCNE-accredited and well-regarded" on 3 of 4 LLMs) while Pacific Pines owns the engineering and computer science narrative. ChatGPT and Gemini sometimes confuse the two institutions' athletic conferences.
MVU Wins: Nursing & Teaching Pacific Pines Wins: STEM
vs. Coastal Ridge College
Coastal Ridge is framed as the smaller, boutique liberal arts alternative. Meridian Valley wins clearly on program breadth, career outcomes, and scale. However, Coastal Ridge dominates "small college feel" and "first-gen friendly" narratives, a segment Meridian Valley could credibly compete in.
MVU Wins: Program Breadth Coastal Ridge Wins: Personalized Feel
vs. Northbay Technical Institute
Northbay is a consistent threat on employment-outcomes and "return on investment" queries. All four LLMs position Northbay as the career-focused technical option. Meridian Valley's broader university framing is a strength in most queries but a weakness when prospects are searching on ROI and job placement.
MVU Wins: Comprehensive University Northbay Wins: Employment Outcomes
What the LLMs Got Wrong

This section is unique to Trionia's AI Visibility methodology. Every verifiable claim the LLMs made about Meridian Valley University was checked against ground truth (institutional records, accreditation databases, official program pages). Below are the specific inaccuracies surfaced in this audit. A mention that is factually wrong is often more damaging than no mention at all.

ChatGPT High
Tuition at Meridian Valley University runs approximately $18,400 per year.
Ground truth: Meridian Valley's 2026 tuition is $15,280 per year in-state and $31,400 per year out-of-state. The blended figure ChatGPT cited does not reflect either actual rate and would mislead prospects in both directions, underpricing for out-of-state applicants and overpricing for in-state families.
query: "How much is tuition at Meridian Valley University?"
Perplexity High
Meridian Valley University competes in NCAA Division I athletics across seven sports.
Ground truth: Meridian Valley is an NCAA Division II institution competing in 14 varsity sports as a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The model confused Meridian Valley with a similarly named private university in the Midwest.
query: "Tell me about athletics at Meridian Valley University"
Gemini High
Meridian Valley's nursing program was ranked #8 in the Pacific Northwest by U.S. News in 2025.
Ground truth: The 2025 U.S. News regional nursing ranking cited (#8 Pacific Northwest) belongs to Western Cascade University. Meridian Valley's nursing program is CCNE-accredited and well-regarded, but does not hold this specific ranking. Attributing a competitor's award to the client is a reputation-risk error.
query: "Is Meridian Valley University's nursing program any good?"
Claude Medium
Meridian Valley has an undergraduate enrollment of roughly 12,500 students.
Ground truth: Fall 2025 undergraduate enrollment was 9,820. Claude's figure appears to include graduate students (total enrollment is 11,640) and then rounds upward. The error is minor, but the difference affects "small vs. mid-sized" positioning.
query: "How big is Meridian Valley University?"
Perplexity Medium
The Carver School of Business at Meridian Valley is ACBSP-accredited.
Ground truth: The Carver School of Business holds AACSB accreditation, a more selective credential than ACBSP and a material differentiator in MBA recruiting. Misattributing the accreditation weakens the program's positioning on ROI and quality queries.
query: "What accreditations does Meridian Valley's business school have?"
ChatGPT Medium
Meridian Valley University was founded in 1895.
Ground truth: Meridian Valley was founded in 1912. The 1895 date belongs to the original territorial normal school that preceded a neighboring institution. History is a commonly probed brand attribute, and this date is in many third-party sources the model trained on.
query: "When was Meridian Valley University founded?"
Perplexity Low
Meridian Valley offers more than 80 undergraduate majors.
Ground truth: Meridian Valley currently offers 64 undergraduate majors plus 31 minors. The overstatement is directionally favorable but not accurate, and may create expectations prospects cannot fulfill during program search.
query: "How many majors does Meridian Valley offer?"

Each inaccuracy above has been flagged with a source query and severity rating. Section 07 (Recommendations) ties these findings to specific corrective actions in web content and structured data.

What the Data Tells Us

Patterns, strengths, vulnerabilities, and opportunities surfaced from analyzing 120 total LLM responses and the factual-accuracy ledger.

Nursing and Teacher Ed Are Genuine Strongholds
Meridian Valley places in the top 2 or 3 across every LLM on nursing and teacher-education queries. Claude in particular names the institution first on K-12 teacher preparation. These two programs are the foundation to defend and build from.
⚠️
Western Cascade Owns the Prestige Narrative
On prestige, research, and flagship framing, Western Cascade University wins all four LLMs. Meridian Valley is positioned as "the affordable alternative" rather than "a peer institution with different strengths." This is the most significant positioning gap.
🚨
Factual Accuracy Is a Material Risk, Especially on Perplexity
Perplexity alone produced 5 factual errors across 30 queries, including conflating Meridian Valley with a different institution, misstating athletic division, and misattributing accreditation. Perplexity is the fastest-growing AI search channel, so these errors matter disproportionately.
📊
Tuition Data Is a Content Gap, Not a Performance Issue
Three of the four LLMs either provide a blended tuition figure or omit the in-state vs. out-of-state distinction. The underlying data exists on the institution's financial-aid pages but is not structured in a way the LLMs can easily parse into two distinct numbers.
📝
Claude Is the Most Trustworthy Channel Today
Claude delivers the highest visibility score, highest detail depth, highest sentiment, and lowest factual error rate. For brand-reputation content and messaging work, Claude responses are the most reliable reference point on how the institution is being described.
🌐
Gemini Has the Widest Competitive Set
Gemini surfaces institutions the other three LLMs don't, including Rivergate University and several smaller colleges. This broader reference set means more brand-dilution risk on Google's AI, but also more opportunities to compete on niche queries where Gemini is the default.
🎯
"Safe and Affordable" Is the Default Framing, Not "Aspirational"
Across all four LLMs, Meridian Valley is framed in some variation of "affordable, accessible, student-focused regional university." This framing is accurate and positive, but it positions the institution as a backup or value choice rather than a first-choice option. Competitors like Western Cascade ("research university") and Northbay ("employment powerhouse") own more emotionally resonant narratives. Shifting Meridian Valley's AI identity toward a specific, distinctive category ("the regional university that places the most nursing graduates into Washington state hospitals", for example) would unlock meaningful repositioning.
Opportunities to Improve AI Visibility

Prioritized actions based on the gaps, strengths, and factual-accuracy issues surfaced in this audit. Items tagged "High Priority" directly address visibility or accuracy risks; "Opportunity" items represent offensive moves to grow share of voice.

1
Correct Tuition and Enrollment Structured Data
Publish a dedicated, schema-marked tuition page that cleanly separates in-state and out-of-state rates, per-credit costs, and total cost of attendance. Add enrollment figures to the About page with schema.org/CollegeOrUniversity markup. These are the two most common LLM factual errors and the fastest to correct. Expected lift: 2 to 3 factual accuracy points across all 4 LLMs within one model refresh cycle.
High Priority, Fixes Accuracy Gaps
2
Prevent Competitor Mis-Attribution (the Nursing Ranking Error)
Gemini attributed a nursing ranking belonging to Western Cascade to Meridian Valley. Publish a clear, authoritative "Rankings and Recognition" page listing Meridian Valley's actual awards, accreditations, and rankings, with sources cited. This gives LLMs a single canonical source to reference and reduces mis-attribution. Also submit corrections to third-party databases (Niche, Peterson's, etc.) where the model may be pulling from.
High Priority, Reputation Risk
3
Defend and Deepen the Nursing and Teacher Education Narratives
These are the strongest AI Visibility assets. Develop dedicated content hubs for each: outcome data, alumni placement stories, accreditation detail, and specific program differentiation. Structure these pages with clear headings and FAQ sections, which LLMs lift from at high rates.
Defend Strength
4
Build a "Career Outcomes" Content Pillar
Northbay Technical Institute dominates employment-outcomes queries. Meridian Valley has competitive placement rates but does not publish them prominently. Create an annual First-Destination Survey report with employer logos, starting salary ranges, and placement rates by major. This is the content most likely to move the employment-outcomes heatmap cells from Weak to Strong.
Opportunity, High ROI
5
Address the Prestige Framing Deficit
Western Cascade owns "flagship" and "prestigious" in every LLM. Meridian Valley will not win that category, but it can claim a distinctive adjacent position: "the regional university with the highest K-12 teacher placement rate in Washington", for example. Develop and publish a concise institutional narrative with distinctive claims (backed by data), and seed it through alumni publications, LinkedIn, and press coverage. LLMs pull heavily from third-party mentions.
Opportunity, Narrative Shift
6
Push Perplexity Accuracy Fixes as a Priority
Perplexity had the most factual errors, including two high-severity ones. Because Perplexity cites sources directly, correcting the underlying web pages (the athletic-conference article, the accreditation page, the "about" page) has a disproportionate impact there. Audit and update the specific pages Perplexity cited in its erroneous responses. The URLs are listed in the full query-level data appendix (not shown in this summary).
High Priority, Channel-Specific
7
Establish a Quarterly Measurement Cadence
LLM outputs shift as models retrain and retrieval layers update. A one-time audit establishes a baseline; quarterly re-measurement tracks whether the recommendations are moving the numbers. Recommend a full re-audit 90 days after initial corrections, with a narrower "accuracy-only" spot check 30 and 60 days in.
Opportunity, Ongoing
How This Report Was Built

Query Selection and Sourcing

30 queries were selected across three categories: Brand-Specific (8 queries, "tell me about", "is it any good", "who attends"), Purchase-Intent (18 queries, high-intent prospect searches), and Competitor Comparison (4 queries, direct head-to-head). Queries were drawn from the institution's Google Search Console data for conversational/long-tail prompts, supplemented with category research on higher-education LLM search patterns.

LLM Response Collection

Each query was run identically on ChatGPT (GPT-4o via the web interface), Claude (Sonnet 4.5), Google Gemini, and Perplexity (Pro) in fresh conversation sessions with no prior context. Responses were captured in full and analyzed for mention presence, position in recommended lists, sentiment framing, detail depth, factual accuracy, and competitor co-mentions. Total responses analyzed: 120 (30 queries, 4 LLMs).

Scoring Methodology

The composite Visibility Score (0 to 100) for each LLM is a weighted blend of: mention rate (20%), average position in recommended lists (20%), sentiment polarity (15%), detail depth on brand queries (15%), factual accuracy grade (20%), and visibility-rating distribution across purchase-intent queries (10%). Factual accuracy grade uses a letter scale (A+ through F) based on the count and severity of inaccuracies relative to ground-truth institutional data.

Ground-Truth Verification

Every verifiable claim in every response was cross-checked against authoritative sources: IPEDS enrollment data, accreditation body directories (CCNE, AACSB, NWCCU), U.S. News rankings archives, the institution's own official pages, and NCAA conference records. Claims that could not be independently verified were flagged but not counted as errors. This verification layer is the principal differentiator of the Trionia methodology and is unique among AI Visibility vendors.

Limitations

LLM outputs are non-deterministic. Responses can vary between sessions, between account contexts, and between model versions. This audit captures a point-in-time snapshot (April 2026) and is intended as a baseline against which subsequent audits will measure movement. AI Visibility is influenced by the broader content ecosystem (third-party reviews, ranking sites, press coverage, social discussion) in addition to the institution's own web properties.
